After pulling the 2.40 patch last week, Sony will relaunch a new version today. This revamped patch will include all of the same features as the old version, including the long awaited game trophies and XMB, which many Xbox 360 owners have continually held as elements that make Xbox Live superior to Sony's free PlayStation Network.
Peter Dille, Senior Vice President of Marketing and PlayStation Network originally said, "Today's PlayStation 3 experience has evolved significantly from what we debuted at launch, and the 2.40 firmware update will drive the PS3 community experience forward at a time when the platform's momentum is stronger than ever, with the launches of several recent blockbuster titles and other exclusive content on the way."
Version 2.40 was pulled quickly after its release due to it causing a number of user's consoles to freeze. This was a disappointment both to PS3 owners and for Sony which has long been playing catch up to the Xbox 360. The recall of the patch added only more dissatisfaction for PlayStation 3 users, as they learned that the in-game trophies wouldn't extend to every currently released game and would function on a case by case basis. The release of v2.41 is at least some good news for gamers itching to show off their achievements the same way Xbox 360 users have been able to from the get go.
