Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy XIII, long a PS3 exclusive, will be released on the Xbox 360 as well. The news came at the tail end of Microsoft's press conference at E3 today, along with an extended trailer that had up until now been seen only by guests at Square Enix events. While this is most certainly a blow for the PS3's exclusive lineup, the Xbox 360 version was listed for release only in North America and Europe, suggesting a possible PS3 exclusivity in Japan.
For some, this will not come as a surprise. Square Enix reported a significantly lower profit margin in North America last year, and they stand to maximize their American earnings by releasing the game on the Xbox 360; which has sold better in the region than the PS3. Nonetheless, the announcement is likely to disturb a number of PS3 owners who purchased the system solely for a number of exclusive titles - FFXIII being one of them.
