Doing nothing to help the ailing image of the long running gaming expo, David Perry, the chief creative officer of Acclaim, has joined a number of other industry critics in their disdain towards the annual event. Describing it as "stupid", "broken" and an "embarrassment," Perry is the latest in a growing line of industry representatives unhappy with the current format of E3.
Last week, EA CEO John Riccitiello made a similar statement, stating that, "Either we need to go back to the old E3, or we'll have to have our own private events." Riccitello went so far as to say he actually hated E3 in its current form. David Perry's sentiments are no less heated.
Of the event he said, "The concept is broken, it's expensive, messages are diluted, consumers are ignored (remembering that the future of this industry is direct connections with consumers - not retailers), the ticket policies are stupid, and if the entire industry worldwide doesn't participate, it's not real anyway."
Over the past few years, there has been a consensus amongst many gamers, developers and industry insiders that the once legendary exposition has been going downhill. Many fear that if the event planners don't pull it together, E3 will become an irrelevant force in the future.
