PSP movies see a price drop

When the PSP was first launched, a number of popular films were released on its UMD disks. While the format proved effective for games, UMD movies left many PSP owners unsatisfied due to the fact that many were more expensive than their DVD counterparts. Sony hopes to rectify this by lowering the price of UMD movies from their initial range of 19.99-29.99, to a more reasonable 9.99-14.99.

This decision could be seen as a bit odd considering the recent launch of Sony's movie service to the PlayStation Network. The service, which offers streaming rentals and downloadable movies, was compatible not just with the PS3, but also the PSP. Whether or not the download service provides an unintended competitor to the UMD movies is yet to be seen.
