Exciting gamers and Star Wars fans alike, it was announced today that a demo for the much anticipated Star Wars: The Force Unleashed would be made available for download this Thursday on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. The game, which has been given the status of official Star Wars canon, is slated for a September 16th release date on the Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, PSP, DS, and mobile phones.

The Force Unleashed takes place between Episodes III and IV of the Star Wars series and follows the exploits of Darth Vader's secret apprentice. The apprentice, who essentially serves as a covert operative, is sent to search the galaxy for the surviving Jedi Knights and eradicate them.

The developers at LucasArts have promised that The Force Unleashed will have something to offer nearly every action gamer, featuring controls that are easy to pick up, but loaded with depth for those willing to devote the necessary time. The upcoming demo will be focused on an oft described TIE Fighter factory, where Vader's apprentice is tasked with hunting a former Jedi General.
