If one thing is for certain, it's that the rest of the world enjoys Soccer much more than America. It turns out that EA's FIFA 09 has officially sold 1.2 million copies in Europe alone, after only being out for less than a week. This makes the title the fastest selling version in series' history, and the highest selling FIFA game of all time. Sales for the game are up 37.5 percent since last year's FIFA 08. According to Chart-Track, it's the third fastest selling game on Xbox 360 (after GTA IV and Halo 3), with 42% of the sales, 40% on the PS3, followed by 11% on the PS2 and 3% for the PSP. The Nintendo Wii and PC versions make up the rest of the copies sold.
President of EA Sports, Peter Moore, has said that:
"FIFA 09's great kick off is a testament to our loyal fans across Europe who simply can't wait to get their hands on the game. This is our fastest selling FIFA game of all time and it's rewarding to see the game so high on the list of must-have titles this holiday."
FIFA 09 releases in North America and Asia on October 14 for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC, PS2, DS, PSP and mobile devices.
